PEER REVIEW PROCESS
Peer Review Process
The peer review process is a process in which a journal assesses the quality of manuscripts before publication. It is reviewed by relevant experts in the field who review and comment on received manuscripts. This process aims to help editors determine whether a manuscript should be published in Compass: Journal of Education and Counselling.
Key Points in the Peer Review Process:
1. Manuscripts submitted to the journal first undergo an initial screening by the editorial team.
2. Manuscripts that pass the screening process are sent to two peer reviewers for review.
3. The peer reviewers independently make recommendations to the journal editor on whether the manuscript should be rejected or accepted (with or without revision).
4. The journal editor considers all feedback from peer reviewers and makes a decision to accept or reject the manuscript.
The peer review process for journal publication is essentially a quality control mechanism, where experts evaluate manuscripts to ensure the quality of published manuscripts. However, peer reviewers do not make decisions to accept or reject papers, but rather provide recommendations. In journals, decision-making authority rests solely with the journal editor or the journal's editorial board.
How does it work?
When a manuscript is submitted to a journal, it is assessed to determine whether it meets the criteria for submission. If so, the editorial team will select potential peer reviewers in the research field to peer review the manuscript and make recommendations. The type of peer review used by Compass: Journal of Education and Counselling:
Double-blind: reviewers are blind to the names of the authors, and authors are blind to who reviewed the manuscript.
